2004 HOF Nelda Dvdson #29

Nelda Davidson

Nelda Davidson was inducted into the THPA Hall of Fame in 2004 becoming the 29th Member to be inducted. Her induction was accepted by her granddaughter, Brittany Davidson.

Nelda joined the THPA in 1990 and was one of the forerunners of the Central Texas Horseshoe Pitcher’s Association in Waco. Upon formation of the club Nelda and her husband, Alton “Gator” Davidson, opened their home to dozens on a regular basis in order to host club meetings and even donated land to build horseshoe pits for the group before the current pits in Brazos Park East could be built. Nelda was immediately appointed to the position of CTHPA Treasurer. She held this position for many years and also served as the club’s Tournament Director and Secretary.

At the State level Nelda served as the THPA’s State Tournament Director and Statistician for 6 years before her health began to decline. However, she did not let this tarnish her love of horseshoes. Even with her oxygen at her side Nelda attended meetings and promoted horseshoes in any way she could.

Nelda’s work within our organization is responsible for the formation of one of the largest and most successful clubs the THPA has ever seen. She was a kind and caring woman who always had the best interest of the membership in mind. Nelda passed away in 2002, but her legacy lives on with each successful tournament held in Waco.
