Cathy Richards


Cathy Richards was inducted into the THPA Hall of Fame in 2019 becoming the 47th Member to be inducted.


Cathy has been a member of 4 Horseshoe Clubs, Carrollton, Arlington, McKinney, & Little Elm. She served as the Editor for the original Carrollton Horseshoe Club and Club Historian for the Arlington Ironbenders. She has traveled to numerous Tournaments throughout Texas, staying all day helping out with scorekeeping for other classes as well as pitching.


In 1992, Cathy won the THPA State Singles Women’s Class B Championship. From there, Cathy quickly moved up, becoming a Class A pitcher in 1993.  In 1999, she won THPA State Women’s Championship, going undefeated while averaging 68.2% which, at that time, was the 3rd highest ringer percentage ever thrown in the Women’s Division. Cathy is a 3-time Women’s THPA State Singles Champion winning the Women’s State Singles Crown again 2007 and 2009.  Additionally, she has several State Singles Runner-up finishes behind fellow Hall of Famers Mary Ann Kamer and Debra Odum. Cathy won the THPA State Doubles Championships with partner Jack Richards in 2004 & 2016. In 2009, she won the THPA State Hi-Lo Double Championship with partner Danny Patterson.


Cathy has pitched in the NHPA Women’s Championship Class on 2 occasions. At the 2007 World Tournament in Oklahoma, Cathy finished 11th in Class A and advanced to the Championship Class finishing in 7th Place in the World. Then in 2011 at the NHPA World Tournament in Louisiana, she finished 8th in Class A, and advanced once again to the Championship Class where she finished 14th in the World!


Her most memorable and enjoyable game was a game she lost to Paul McCreery 40 to 36. Cathy & Paul each pitched superb 75.7% games!


Cathy served on the THPA Hall of Fame Board for 2 years with Bob Graham. She is also a 2-time recipient of the THPA Sportsman Award in 1996 and then again in 2007.
